Most of these products are long, heavy, and irregularly sized, requiring specialized handling and storage methods to prevent material damage and ensure safe, efficient displacement throughout the warehouse. Due to the size, weight, and variability of its inventory, efficient storage and material accessibility are critical to maintaining product integrity, reducing handling time, and supporting high-volume order fulfillment. Project Scope

Due to the nature of its inventory, EMS (Orlando, Florida facility) faced ongoing challenges with storing long and oversized materials using traditional selective pallet racking. While pallet racks can be effective for standard palletized goods, the vertical uprights and fixed bay widths created obstructions when handling long-load products such as aluminum extrusions, tubes, and architectural profiles. These limitations increased loading/unloading time, required additional forklift maneuvering, and reduced overall warehouse efficiency. In many cases, materials had to be repositioned multiple times to access specific items, leading to workflow disruptions and underutilized storage space.

As product variety and inventory volume continued to grow, the existing storage method no longer supported efficient material flow, safe handling practices, or optimal space utilization. To address the storage challenges associated with long and oversized materials, Atlantic Rack recommended installing a cantilever racking system. Unlike traditional pallet racking, the cantilever features open-front arms and no vertical obstruction, allowing full access to long-load products. This system is ideal for storing long loads, such as: aluminum extrusions, beams, tubes, sheet, plate, and architectural profiles of varying lengths.
