About Gresco

Since 1960, Gresco has served the electrical supply needs of hundreds of utility customers in the Southeast region of the United States by providing products and services they need to build and maintain power systems. Over the years, Gresco has expanded its geographical reach with a network of strategically-located warehouses and evolved their product offerings to continue to serve customers in new and emerging markets throughout the US.

Today, Gresco’s diverse portfolio includes products and services in lighting, tools, telecom, solar, EV charging stations, and unmanned aircraft systems.

This constant growth rate from Gresco over the years has allowed them to understand the importance of maximizing their warehouse floorspace.

Gresco Case Study

Customer Needs

Gresco reached Atlantic Rack through our material handling partners in Georgia (Warehouse Cubed). They had one specific problem that needed an effective solution: take max advantage of their huge warehouse outdoor space to store their Utility Pole Transformers.

When visiting the customer warehouses located in Georgia and Florida, we noticed that the Utility Pole Transformer pallets where simply laid on the floor of their warehouse yards, and pallets couldn’t be placed on top of each other because of the delicate nature of the product. This caused Gresco to potentially loose huge amounts of vertical space since the pallets were simply placed horizontally next to each other.

Of course Gresco mentioned they had tried traditional selective pallet racking in the past, but the harsh environmental conditions of the Southeast region (strong winds, humidity levels, extreme thunderstorms, high temperatures and even hurricanes) deteriorated the racks very rapidly, generating corrosion and jeopardizing the safety of the employees and stored products.

This aerial picture illustrates the huge amount of  outdoor warehouse space that Gresco counts with. The vertical space of these yards was potentially being wasted when Atlantic Rack approached the customer.

Proposed Solution

After having analyzed all the information provided by the customer and understanding their needs and past troubles, we knew the ideal solution to provide the customer was installing HOT-DIP GALVANIZED SELECTIVE PALLET RACKING.

This storage system offers protection against rain, snow, extreme temperatures, humidity and virtually any other extreme weather condition. Hot-Dip galvanized racking are specially designed to resist harsh environmental conditions; they are mostly used for outdoors, cooler and freezer applications, making them a reliable and durable solution for outdoor warehouse storage.

The galvanization process involves coating the racks with a protective layer of zinc, which creates a barrier against corrosion and rust caused by exposure to moisture and harsh weather conditions. This ensures that the racks remain in optimal condition for an extended period, even when exposed to the elements.

The importance of galvanized pallet racks in an outdoor warehouse cannot be overstated. By investing in these racks, businesses can confidently store their inventory outdoors without worrying about damage from environmental conditions. This not only helps to maximize storage space but also minimizes the risk of product loss or damage.

By designing a layout of selective galvanized pallet racking we managed to increase Gresco’s outdoor storage space significantly, since they were now able to store vertically their power transformers. Gresco could now store 500% more product outside because of the warehouse solution provided by Atlantic Rack.
